Post-Summer Car Check-Up in Dubai: 8 Things to Inspect Before Winter Driving Season

The worst of the Dubai summer is behind us. Mornings are easier, the sun is gentler, and weekend plans are heading back outdoors: road trips to Hatta, desert drives, beach evenings and longer commutes with the windows down. But your car has just come through months of 45°C+ heat, and the damage is often hidden until it picks the worst moment to show up.

At Greenway Auto Repairing Garage in Al Qusais, we see the same pattern every October: cars that coped all summer start showing weak batteries, tired tyres, small leaks and worn rubber once the pressure is off. A short post-summer check-up catches these early, while they are still cheap to fix.

Here are the eight areas we recommend checking now.

1. Battery health

Heat is a battery’s biggest enemy. It speeds up internal wear, and the damage often shows up when temperatures drop and the battery has to work harder to start the engine. If your car cranks slowly, the dashboard flickers or the battery is more than two or three years old, get it load-tested before it leaves you stranded. Our battery service includes testing, and we explain more about the problem in why car batteries die so fast in Dubai heat.

2. Tyres: pressure, wear and age

Hot tarmac punishes tyres. Check three things:

    • Pressure: Set it when the tyres are cold, using the figure on the door-jamb sticker, not the number on the tyre sidewall.
    • Tread and sidewalls: Look for uneven wear, cracks, bulges or embedded objects.
    • Age: The four-digit date code on the sidewall shows the week and year of manufacture. Many manufacturers advise having older tyres inspected regularly, even if the tread still looks fine.

If you notice the car pulling to one side or the steering wheel sitting off-centre, you may also need a wheel alignment. Our tyre service team can inspect, rotate and replace as needed.

3. Coolant and radiator

Your cooling system worked flat out all summer. Check the coolant level and colour, look under the car for drips or crusty residue around hoses, and watch the temperature gauge on your next long drive. A radiator that was only just coping in August can fail in October. Our radiator maintenance service covers flushing, leak checks and hose inspection, and our summer cooling guide explains why this matters so much in the UAE.

4. Engine oil and fluids

Extreme heat thins oil and breaks it down faster. Even if you have not reached your service interval, check the oil level and condition, and look at brake fluid, power steering fluid and washer fluid. If you are due for a change, our express lube and oil change runs in a pit-stop format, so you are not without your car for long.

5. Air conditioning

It may feel like you no longer need the AC, but October is the best time to fix it quietly, before the next hot spell. Weak cooling, odd smells or a compressor that clicks on and off are all warning signs. Read our driver’s guide on why a car AC stops cooling in Dubai, or book an AC inspection.

6. Rubber parts: hoses, belts, wipers and door seals

UV and heat dry out rubber, leaving it brittle or cracked. Check wiper blades before the first rain, because worn blades smear rather than clear. Look at belts for fraying and at door and window seals for cracking. These are small parts, but they cause big headaches when they fail.

7. Suspension, joint boots and exhaust

UAE roads are generally good, but heat, speed bumps and heavy loads still wear suspension components. Listen for clunks over bumps, watch for uneven tyre wear and look for torn rubber boots on joints. A damaged boot lets dirt in and grease out, and a cheap fix becomes an expensive one. Rattles or unusual noise from underneath can also point to the exhaust system.

8. Warning lights and stored fault codes

Did a warning light flash on once in August and then disappear? Your car may still have stored a fault code. Modern vehicles log problems that come and go, and a computer diagnostic scan can read them in minutes and point to the cause before it becomes a breakdown.

Why choose the Greenway 360° Health Check

Our signature check-up covers the points above in a single visit: joint boots, exhaust, radiator, suspension, oil and coolant leaks, temperature variation and tyre pressure. It is led by our managing director, a professional mechanical engineer, and backed by 25 years of experience in Dubai conditions. You get honest advice with no unnecessary upsells, and a clear explanation of what needs fixing now and what can wait.

Can’t fit it into your day? We offer contactless door-to-door pick-up and delivery across most of Dubai, including Al Qusais, Al Nahda, Mirdif and Downtown.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I service my car in Dubai?

Follow the interval in your owner’s manual, but remember that Dubai’s heat and stop-start traffic count as demanding conditions. If most of your driving is short trips or heavy traffic, ask your garage whether an earlier interval makes sense.

Is a health check worth it if my car seems fine?

Yes. Many heat-related problems are invisible until they fail. A check-up is much cheaper than an emergency repair or tow.

Can you check my car on the same day?

Our pit-stop format is designed for minor services so you can be back on the road quickly. Timing for larger jobs depends on what we find, and we will give you an honest estimate after diagnosis.
